Fed:Tax man making sure chefs not cooking the books
The Australian Taxation Office will target chefs .. nurses .. and medical practitioners
in this year's swoop on work-related expenses.
Second Tax Commissioner JENNIE GRANGER says the ATO will be looking for out-of-pattern
claims .. and self-education home office expenses .. computers .. and laptops.
Around six in seven employees now claim work expenses .. and the figure rises to nine
in ten across higher-income earners.
Individual taxpayers claimed a total 27 billion dollars in 2005-06 compared to 22.7
billion the previous year.
