SA: Study to check on ADHD drugs

South Australia will lead a national study on the use of stimulant medications to treat
attention deficit and hyperactivity disorders in children.

Mental Health and Substance Abuse Minister JANE LOMAX-SMITH has addressed a ministerial
council meeting on drug strategy in Brisbane today.

Dr LOMAX-SMITH says there's been an 8.5 per cent increase in the use stimulants during
the past decade.

She says there's also concerns school children are sharing the drugs and using them
for non-medical reasons.

Dr LOMAX-SMITH says the paper will be completed by the end of the year.
