GOLD COAST Dec 29 AAP - New Years eve revellers in Times Square will celebrate the
arrival of the millennium down under with a parade of Australian puppets and thousands
of foam boomerangs as part of a 24-hour long midnight festival.

Every hour New York city revellers will commemorate the arrival of 2000 in a different
part of the world.

Australia's millennium will arrive at 9am New York time.

"We'll have a live television broadcast from Australia as well as giant puppets and
foam boomerangs," said Times Square Business Improvement District spokeswoman, Christine
Krische.

"We're expecting at least 500,000 people in Times Square with more than a million in
nearby streets."

The foam boomerangs will be hurled from high-rises around the famous New York intersection
while puppeteers perform on a stage and through the crowds with crocodile, snake, koala
and kangaroo puppets.

The Australian procession will also feature aboriginal music and figures from cave paintings.
